Learning Curve: Creating and customizing brushes can have a learning curve, especially for beginners or those unfamiliar with the digital art software. Artists can exchange their custom brushes, opening up opportunities for collaboration, learning from others, and expanding their artistic toolkits. This allows artists to achieve a similar aesthetic digitally, bridging the gap between traditional and digital art.Community and Sharing: Custom brushes can be shared within the digital art community. They provide flexibility to adapt to different art styles and subjects, making it easier to achieve desired results.Replication of Traditional Techniques: Custom brushes can mimic the look and feel of traditional art tools like pencils, watercolors, or charcoal. With custom brushes, artists can save time by easily reusing their preferred settings and styles, leading to increased efficiency in their workflow.Versatility: Custom brushes offer a wide range of possibilities, allowing artists to emulate traditional art mediums or create entirely new and imaginative effects. They can experiment with different textures, shapes, and dynamics, allowing for greater creative expression.Efficiency and Speed: Custom brushes can streamline the digital art process by enabling artists to quickly apply specific textures or effects. Creative Freedom: Custom brushes give artists the ability to create unique and personalized brush styles that match their artistic vision. When you add the differently detailed sides, the mixture of two styles and the bared teeth, you realize exactly how extraordinary these bookends are. He also chose to show the horses’ teeth bared, an unusual choice for Art Deco style. I think it’s interesting that the artist modeled these heads with a combination of stylized and realistic details. Green felt was added to their bases at some point which is still in very good, useful condition. They are hollow and cast in grey metal (I’m guessing spelter), then bronze finished. Each bookend measures 5 inches tall by 4 1/2 inches wide by 5 1/2 inches deep. They came out of my grandmother’s estate after being in storage for decades which may account for their preservation. Sometime during the 1930s by Frankart and are very rare in original condition. Records confirm they were manufactured in the U. They have retained their original bronze finish with the appropriate wear and patina for their age. Maybe that’s why they’re called Trojan Horses – they are surprising. They vary in detail when placed back to back, but only look identically matched when placed side by side like most bookends (please see detail photos). They are what I would call a “different sided matched pair”. They are named “Trojan” horses but they could easily be added to any category of horse collectable. "The bees already did the work for us, by evolving a system in which the same egg has a plasticity of lifespan that outrivals any experimental lifespan extension by many folds."Īt the larvae stage, both the worker and queen bees are fed the same food: royal jelly. Studying ageing while working with honeybees turns out the best comprise for me and I found I really like working with the bees."įindings from Nicolas's research have linked the difference in lifespan between the queen bee and workers bees to a difference in nutrition. "I was curious about ageing but not convinced by the way traditional medical research looked at the ageing process. The ability to extend the lifespan by nutritional manipulation will provide an important experimental tool to investigate the process of aging and could help us to age better and live well for longer.īecause of this extraordinary difference in lifespan between workers and queens, Nicolas, working with Professor Paul Else at UOW's Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health, began studying honeybees more closely. The study of aging is important because age is the dominant risk factor for most disease and understanding mechanism will likely help increase health then in humans. So, our results show that feeding emergent worker bees with a low-end polyunsaturated fats led the worker to maintain a Queen's like membrane lipid composition and actually live longer. We actually have results that support this hypothesis. This diet should lead the workers to maintain a queen like membrane lipid composition and they should live for longer. To achieve that we are feeding emerging worker bees with a diet low in polyunsaturated fats. We're currently looking at extending the lifespan of the workers, worker bees. We think this difference in membrane lipid compulsion might be the underlying mechanism of the much shorter life span in worker bee compared to Queen. This differences in food consumption led to a difference in lipid membrane fats between a cast. We are what we eat and bees are no exception. Pollen has a lot of polyunsaturated fats while royal jelly has a negligible amount. Pollen and royal jelly are very different fat composition. Workers start feeding on honey and pollen, while queens are said mouth to mouth the same royal jelly and never allowed to eat pollen. However, after emergence is when the type of food change between the castes. So we think this difference in lifespan is related to a difference in nutrition as larvae both worker and Queen are growing amerce the same food, royal jelly. So, these or any other social insects have evolved system in which the workers in the Queen are genetically identical, but while workers live for weeks so typically between two to six weeks, Queen can live for years up to eight years. We are looking at aging but using an alternative model, the Honeybee System. The same can be achieved with a higher weight properly formulated oil. The reason Lucas can slow consumption is if you are getting oil past the rings or seals and being such a heavy weight it resists flowing past. Unfortunately air bubbles don’t lubricate. And yes anytime you add a heavier weight oil into a mix it will raise the viscosity. This means it dilutes the addivtive package of your oil that serve functions like anti wear and anti foam. It’s a heavy weight oil with no additives. Use to do this demonstration all the time at the shop to show people why not to use Lucas. The second number in the viscosity rating-the "40" in 10W-40, for example-tells you that the oil will stay thicker at high temperatures than one with a lower second number-the "30" in 10W-30, for example.Jan 18, 2018" Once the engine is running, the oil heats up. "A 5W oil is typically what's recommended for winter use. So I think your Ford engines would do just fine if you used 15-40 or 10-30 oil in then. I could be wrong, but I have heard more than once that the reason vehicle makers specify low viscosity oil in new rigs is an attempt to improve the fuel mileage. If you put something heavier then 5/20 it stops it but seems like that would be detrimental to the motor over time. I've got two low mileage ford v10's that don't smoke or leak any oil but have a lot higher oil consumption then I like. Seems like the Lucas would raise viscosity quite a bit and be really hard on the motor. Just curious about using Lucas oil treatment in these engines with tight clearances calling for 5/20 oil. We've tested the EOS R5's latest firmware, though, and didn't get any overheating warnings when shooting a short film in 32-degree temperatures, so it's certainly a very capable video camera for most people.Ĭanon clearly went all-out on the EOS R5, and it's close to being the perfect Canon camera for hybrid shooters. The EOS R5's overheating restrictions are likely to put off those who shoot lengthy clips (interviews, for example). It might have the headline-grabbing spec of 8K video, but the picture is a little less clear for videographers. We're also big fans of the body design, which combines a responsive touchscreen with a superb electronic viewfinder. We've spent a lot of time with the EOS R5 since it launched, and our tests have consistently found it to have fantastic image quality, seriously impressive autofocus, and decent battery life.
